Automatic Backup scenarios
Regular backups are necessary at all stages of the site's life, as they allow you to quickly and painlessly eliminate the consequences of any failure, whether it's a fatal error during the development or configuration of the site, the installation of incompatible modules, or incorrect actions by administrators. You can always download a backup copy of the website and continue working.
And here it is very critical how fresh the copy will be. The less frequently you make backups, the more steps it will take to restore the site to its current state.
Ideally, a backup copy should be made daily, and during active development, it may be worth making a copy more often. Then, if the site crashes, you just need to download the latest copy, and the site will be able to work again.
It remains to make sure that the backup process does not require additional attention from you and does not take much time. Plus, it would be nice to minimize the resource spent on storage. This is exactly what our "Automatic Backup" module does.
Module functionality
The module makes it possible to create several backup scenarios: with different frequency and in different volume. For example, at the beginning of the month, the module makes a full copy of the site with all databases, settings, products, images, and so on, and then a backup of all data is created once a day, except for folders with images.
The absence of several images uploaded in the last 24 hours will not interfere with the correct operation of the site. At the same time, if you upload images with each backup, too, this will increase the size of each backup by hundreds and thousands of gigabytes.
This way, you will always have a fresh, working version of the website at your fingertips, which does not take up too much storage space.
Additional services
Another good idea is to keep backups in multiple locations. Therefore, we offer our clients an additional service: storing a backup copy on our server and/or setting up an additional server for you to store backups. Thus, the backup will be stored in several places independent of each other. This means that no matter what happens to the site, server, or anything else, you can always easily and quickly deploy a backup copy and continue working.
